Today I'm sharing something with you that's a common struggle for many online business owners, especially if you're just starting out and you're learning how to market your business.

You know that you need to market your business in order to get clients. The problem is, you don't really know how to market your business effectively. Everywhere you look, someone is recommending a different marketing approach. You've tried everything but not getting results. Instead you end up feeling overwhelmed and confused.

So here's what I want to talk about today: How to get rid of marketing overwhelm and make marketing fun.

Feeling overwhelmed about how much you have to do to market your business? Here's how to get rid of that overwhelm and make marketing fun.

I'm sure you're thinking... Is that even possible? To make marketing fun? The answer is a definite YES!!

If you're feeling overwhelmed by all the marketing you have to do for your business, I hear you. Everywhere you turn, there's someone saying you have to do this, you have to do that... Blogging, email marketing, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, doing podcasts, webinars, speaking engagements, writing a book, being interviewed, live streaming, Facebook ads, Facebook groups... the list goes on and on, right?

There's so much to do!

And I see so many business owners trying everything under the sun. They jump from one marketing method to another, never giving any particular method enough time and consistency for it to work. So, for example, you might start blogging, you put out a few blog posts and then, you're like, "Oh, it's not working. I'm not getting any engagement. I don't have any traffic. No-one is reading my blog. I'll try something else." And so you try posting on social media. You get completely overwhelmed because you don't have a strategy. You're not getting results. And you think, "Well, this doesn't work either." And so it goes. And this is how you go nowhere fast. This is how you become completely overwhelmed... completely stuck... and you feel like nothing you do ever works.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not knocking any marketing method in particular. All those marketing techniques work. Blogging works. Doing webinars works. Live streaming works. Email marketing works. Cold calling works. There are tons of marketing methods and they all work. But if you try and do a little of everything, jumping from one thing to another, and never mastering any of them, you will not get results. It's as simple as that.

So what's the answer?

The answer to ending marketing overwhelm is to stop thinking you have to do everything.

Save yourself time and energy, and start to get results by picking just one or two things that you LOVE doing. To begin with I'd suggest you pick just one thing, and really pour yourself into it. Own it. Become good at it. Learn more about it. Become the best you can be at it. And make it YOUR #1 MARKETING METHOD.

This is how you get focus and clarity. And focus and clarity are the two things that you'll hear me talk about repeatedly because it's so important to have focus and clarity if you want to build a business.

So, going back to picking your marketing method... How do you decide which method to use? And what do you do with this one thing? I'm going to give you a few tips.

Tip #1: Ask yourself... What feels easy to you? What comes naturally to you? What do you do that makes you forget about time?

So, for example, I love writing. Writing feels easy to me and words flow for me. When I write, I don't notice the time. It's like, oh my god, 2 hours, 3 hours have gone and I'm still writing. And my family is hungry because I've forgotten to make dinner!

For some of you, this may be writing as it is for me, or maybe you love going live on Facebook, or you love to teach something in a workshop, or you love being interviewed in podcasts. Some of you may enjoy going to networking meetings and connecting with lots of people. Whatever. It may be you sign most your clients from talking to strangers in cafes.

Give yourself the permission to forget about marketing methods that don't feel good, and focus on doing what you love. You don't have to market your business like anyone else. Just because someone builds a 6- or 7-figure business with webinars, it doesn't mean that it's going to work for you. It can, I'm not saying it can't. But if it's not your thing, if it doesn't light you up, if it doesn't get you excited, you're not going to do it consistently, right? And it's consistency and focus that's going to get you results.

Tip #2: Do your #1 thing in different ways

Once you've identified your #1 thing, there's so much you can do with it. For example, if I was into live streaming, I would not only do my own live streams... I would connect with others who love doing the same and see if we can be guests on each other's live stream. I would interview influencers on my live streams. I would contact people who are looking for expert guests in their virtual summits to talk about my area of expertise. So you see how you can become good at your one thing in many different ways.

Tip #3: Do what inspires you

So you know how we say that some relationships are draining and others are uplifting? Well, marketing is the same. So, pay attention throughout the day when you're working on your business. What marketing activities energise you and what drain you? What inspires you and fills you with creativity and ideas, and what makes you just want to lie down for a few hours?

Tip #4: Do what you enjoy

The next time you come across someone else's marketing strategy, you can just ask yourself... Is that something I would love doing? If the answer is yes, great! Go for it! But if your answer is no, even better! That's one less thing you have to do and it frees you up to do what feels good! If your answer is I'm not sure, then go ahead and try it. There's nothing wrong with trying something new. In fact that's how you'll find out what works and what doesn't work for you.

OK, I hope you'll use the tips to help you get rid of marketing overwhelm.

So what's your #1 thing? What gets you excited? Let me know in the comments.
