Question: Are you afraid to promote yourself because you don't want to follow prevalent marketing tactics that don't feel good?
Raise your hand!
BUT if you're in business, promoting and marketing yourself is a necessity. The good news is, you can do it without using icky/spammy tactics, or anything that doesn't feel right to you.
Just because other people are using a particular tactic, it doesn't mean you have to. It's your business and you can totally choose what you want to do or not do.
The key is finding ways to market yourself that feel authentic, respectful and fun. And take it from me that it is absolutely possible!
For example, I would never want to create an IG post with me pointing at text because to me it feels silly and awkward. If there's something I want to say, I would say it in the caption instead of pointing at text.
And I say this without being disrepectful to people who do. Pointing at text is not inherently silly or awkward, but it is to me. There are tons of people out there who absolutely rock pointing at text. So if that's your jam, go for it!
But I also see that for many, it looks blatantly awkward. Like they feel it's what they SHOULD do but it's not something they really WANT to do. To me that's a clear sign that someone is doing something that's out of alignment.
I get that it's a way to work with IG algorithm because it favours that kind of content right now. But I would never want to sacrifice what feels right to me in order to game the algorithm. That's just not me. I would rather abandon IG than do something that goes against who I am.
Have the courage to refuse to do something just because other people are doing it! You owe it to yourself.
